According to Marca, Valencia has granted G. Rodríguez permission to return to Argentina during this international break to participate in a series of tribute events organized by the Argentine Football Association (AFA) for Messi's national team farewell. G. Rodríguez will not play in any related matches but will return to Valencia after the events.

Messi's national team farewell event for Argentine fans is scheduled for October 6 at the Monumental Stadium in Buenos Aires, where Lionel Scaloni's Argentina will play a friendly match against Benin. After Messi announced his retirement from the national team, the AFA will also host several events under the theme "Thank you, Leo" to honor the Argentine star.
According to Radio MARCA Valencia, the AFA wanted G. Rodríguez to attend the event because he was part of the successful cycle of the Argentine national team in recent years, winning the 2021 Copa América, the 2022 Finalissima, the 2022 FIFA World Cup, and the 2024 Copa América with the team.
Although G. Rodríguez will not play in the friendly against Benin, he was invited to accompany Messi at this special event for Argentine football.
G. Rodríguez shared many significant honors with Messi for the Argentine national team in recent years and maintained close relationships with many teammates from that period. The AFA hopes to use this event to reunite members of the 2022 World Cup-winning squad and other national team players from that era to accompany Messi in his final national team appearance on Argentine soil.
With Valencia's permission, G. Rodríguez will return to Argentina and plans to rejoin Javier Aguirre's team for training the following week to prepare for the league's restart.
Valencia will visit Racing Santander at El Sardinero Stadium on October 11 at 9:00 PM.
