Thierry Henry has stated that it is crucial for Arsenal to retain academy players like Lewis-Skelly, according to Football.London.

Henry praised Lewis-Skelly and said it was "paramount" for Arsenal to keep their homegrown talent in the coming years. Football.London previously reported that Chelsea and Man United had shown interest in signing the talented youngster, who is valued at around £45 million.

At the time, Arsenal had just signed Bruno Guimarães from Newcastle for £75 million, and Chelsea had also contacted Arsenal to inquire about the possibility of acquiring the Hale End academy product. Lewis-Skelly made it clear that he wanted to stay at the Emirates and fight for a regular first-team spot.

The 20-year-old has made six appearances this season, primarily playing as a deep-lying midfielder. However, he was an unused substitute in Arsenal's 3-0 defeat to Brighton before the international break.

When asked by Betway how important it was for Arsenal to keep Lewis-Skelly, Henry said: "It's paramount."

"As Arsenal fans, we like to see Saka, Lewis-Skelly, Dowman, and more academy players come through and play for Arsenal. That's very important. Of course, players will be brought in along the way, but it's always good to see successful academy players emerge and play for Arsenal; otherwise, what's the point of having an academy?

"It's not just because Lewis-Skelly came through the academy, but also because he has delivered performances and helped the team at crucial moments last year. When Mikel put him in midfield, he immediately answered the call.

"He continues to perform well, and such performances deserve to be rewarded. He is now a regular starter and has been called up to the England squad, with hopes of playing for his country. That's all you can ask for."

During the international break, Lewis-Skelly started both of England's matches, performing well in Tuchel's midfield system. He can also play as a left-back, which provides an extra option for both Tuchel and Arteta, though his natural position is in midfield.

Last season, Lewis-Skelly made 36 appearances for Arsenal, winning the Premier League title and reaching the Champions League and League Cup finals. However, he wants more and will continue to push for more trophies this season.

Lewis-Skelly said last year: "I want to leave my mark. I want to win everything there is to win in this Sport. I want to lift trophies on the biggest stage, while always remaining eager to learn and humble, which is very important."
