According to Milan News, following Croatia's 2-1 defeat to Spain, Modrić spoke to Spanish media Cadena Cope in the mixed zone about the possibility of joining Real Madrid's staff after retirement.

"Of course, Real Madrid is my home, it's the club of my life where I spent 13 years," Modrić said. "What happens in the future remains to be seen. As I said in my last interview, I would certainly like to return, but only if I can truly be helpful and work for Real Madrid, not just be there. I want to contribute as much as I can. However, I also need to understand what capacity I would return in, what role I would have, and whether the club would be willing to have me. A lot of things need to align for a return, but let's see—I'm not thinking about that right now."

Modrić continued, "I am currently focused on playing, but as I just said, Real Madrid is my home, and returning would certainly be a dream. But we'll see—there's no need to rush it. If, after I retire, I can find a position where I can make an impact and feel important, why not? But there's still time to think about all of that."
