Former Barcelona defender Sylvinho has shared his experience during his time at Barcelona in an interview, saying that after Guardiola took over, facing Barcelona became "even more of a nightmare."

Sylvinho spent 8 years in La Liga, 3 years with Celta and 5 years with Barcelona. He played alongside Ronaldinho, Xavi, Eto'o, Deco, and Puyol, and also witnessed Guardiola's arrival as Barcelona's first-team manager.
Sylvinho recalled that he had wanted to experience Spanish football since he was a teenager. After playing for Arsenal, he joined Celta, and later transferred to Barcelona in 2004. Speaking about that Barcelona team, he said the club was not only built on superstars but had a clear philosophy: win titles, play serious football, train hard, and maintain professionalism.
Regarding Ronaldinho, Sylvinho said his greatest quality was the ease with which he did everything—pure talent. He added that if a pass was made a second earlier, Ronaldinho could turn and beat his opponent, creating spectacular opportunities.
Sylvinho said what impressed him most after Guardiola took over was the team's clear objectives in every aspect. The coaching staff had specific demands for training and matches, but this management style was positive, not authoritarian. He recalled that Barcelona was already strong and took another step forward: "We won almost every match. It was difficult to face Barcelona before, and afterward it became even more of a nightmare."
In Sylvinho's view, the away El Clásico against Real Madrid in May 2009 was a significant turning point. Guardiola deployed Messi in a false nine position, a tactic that had been practiced for two or three days beforehand. After seeing this tactic work at the Bernabéu, Sylvinho believed this approach had tremendous potential.
Sylvinho also said that Guardiola was excellent at communicating his philosophy, and the players elevated the team's performance to a higher level. He recalled that Barcelona's approach focused not only on possession and attack but also on quick ball recovery, maintaining the pace and energy of the match to the fans.
Sylvinho remembered a match where, as a fullback, he felt he didn't need to defend for 5 consecutive minutes because the team continuously controlled the ball and attacked. He said that after experiencing that era, Guardiola became one of the greatest coaches of all time.
