Earlier this summer, Sharp became a free agent after leaving Doncaster Rovers and has now officially announced his retirement.

Sharp said: "I'm hanging up my boots. I've had an incredible journey, gone a long way, and played until I was 40.

"I wanted to make the decision my own way, on my own terms. I've seen many friends forced to leave the game due to injuries or other reasons.

"I wanted to leave with dignity, and luckily, I scored a hat-trick in my last appearance.

"Many people have asked if I wanted to reach 300 goals. To be honest, it would have been great to achieve that milestone.

"But my career has been incredible. I love football, and I'm passionate about it.

"Maybe I wasn't the most talented player or the most dazzling one on the field, but because I love football, I'm passionate, and I feel like I've squeezed every last drop out of my career."
