Kane in a Viking jersey? That seems almost unimaginable today, but it might have been a real possibility back then. In 2012, the striker, who later became England's all-time leading scorer and Bayern Munich's top goalscorer, was reportedly offered to the Norwegian club. However, the transfer ultimately fell through in peculiar circumstances. Former Viking scout Gary Goodchild recounted the story ahead of Tuesday's Champions League clash against the German champions.

"I was told he might be interested in joining Viking," Goodchild told Stavanger Aftenblad. More than 14 years have passed since then. At that time, "nobody" knew Kane. He was still waiting for his breakthrough at Tottenham Hotspur, constantly being loaned out — first to Leyton Orient, then Millwall, and later Norwich and Leicester City.
Scout arrived, but Kane was injured
Goodchild said: "I spoke to a couple of people who felt it would help him to go on loan to Scandinavia for a while." So the scout flew to England to see the talented Kane, who was playing for Millwall at the time. However, Kane was sidelined with an injury for that match, and Goodchild had to return empty-handed.
"Before long, he established himself in the Tottenham first team, and the rest is history," Goodchild stated. On Tuesday, Kane will finally arrive in Stavanger, more than a decade later — but this time wearing a Bayern Munich jersey.
