Manchester United will not announce their squad for away Champions League matches this season, believing it could put the team at a disadvantage.

In the past, Manchester United typically released their squad list for European away games shortly before departing from a private terminal at Manchester Airport. However, this season, the club will not publicly disclose which players are traveling with the team. Manchester United decided to change this practice because they believe releasing the squad list could give opponents advance notice of which players are available.
Manchester United held an open training session on Monday morning. All clubs participating in UEFA competitions are required to hold an open training session before a match, and the absences of Kobbie Mainoo and Luke Shaw were particularly notable. Whether the two will travel to Madrid to face Atlético Madrid will be decided at the last minute. In the past, the club would announce the traveling squad and confirm their inclusion, but this will not happen today.
It is currently unclear whether Matthijs de Ligt will travel with the team. It is believed that he still needs more time to recover for selection. However, he did arrive at Old Trafford with the team last weekend and traveled with the squad to London to face Fulham before the international break.
Carrick typically does not go into detail about injuries at press conferences but confirms which players are unavailable and gives a general indication of how long they will be sidelined. Manchester United is not obligated to release their squad list before the match.
The Red Devils need a positive result in Tuesday night's match against Atlético Madrid. They drew with Tottenham Hotspur after the international break.
