The saga surrounding Manchester United academy product JJ Gabriele's departure continues, with Real Madrid currently leading the race for the 16-year-old wonderkid. The Whites are increasingly confident they can bring him to the Bernabéu.

Transfer request shocks Manchester United

Gabriele has officially submitted a transfer request to Manchester United, shocking the club's hierarchy.

At the start of this season, Manchester United had high hopes for him, even planning his professional debut in the League Cup against Brighton. Had that happened, he would have become Manchester United's youngest-ever player. However, he was subsequently left out of the Premier League squad against Ipswich and the Champions League squad against Sabah. The player and his team were extremely frustrated, and relations between the two parties deteriorated completely.

Real Madrid lead the race, passport clears transfer obstacles

Real Madrid is intensifying efforts to capitalize on the conflict between Manchester United and the player to complete the signing. According to journalist Jose Felix Diaz, a final decision on his future will be made soon, with Real Madrid currently the preferred destination. The player himself also favors a move to La Liga.

Gabriele is expected to obtain a Cypriot passport, which would allow him to circumvent post-Brexit transfer restrictions. If his parents meet FIFA's requirements for non-football migration, he will be able to join a continental European club without complications.

Several European giants watching

Real Madrid is not the only interested club; Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, and Barcelona have held talks with the player's representatives.

Two years ago, Manchester United convinced him to reject an offer from Manchester City, but since turning 16, the club's influence over him has diminished significantly. Manchester United is keen to retain this talented academy prospect, but internally the club is gradually accepting the reality that he will likely leave. The player himself is urgently seeking guarantees of immediate first-team opportunities.

Outlook

Losing Gabriele would be a significant blow to Manchester United's academy. The club's minimum requirement is that he does not join another Premier League rival directly.

For Real Madrid, successfully signing Gabriele would further strengthen their reserve of young talent. However, questions remain: will he receive the first-team opportunities he craves upon arriving in Madrid, opportunities he was unable to secure at Manchester? The teenager's fate will be decided soon.
