England have announced their squad for the Under-17 European Championships, which gets underway in England on Friday.

Steve Cooper's latest crop will he aiming to go one better on home soil than last year's European Championships, which saw them lose to Spain in the final.

The Young Lions are, however, the reigning world champions at that age group, having defeated Spain 5-2 in the final out in India last October.

They begin their Euros campaign against Israel at Chesterfield's Proact Stadium on Friday evening, before playing Italy at Walsall on Bank Holiday Monday and Switzerland at Rotherham on May 10.

Over a quarter of the 20-man group for the tournament comes from Arsenal's academy - defenders Vontae Daley-Campbell and Bukayo Saka, midfield Trae Coyle, and forwars Xavier Amaechi, Tyreece John-Jules and Folarin Balogun.

Two Manchester United players - defender Ethan Laird and midfielder Jimmy Garner - have been picked along with two from Manchester City and one from Chelsea and Liverpool.

Other Young Lions have been picked from the academies of Fulham, Sheffield United, West Ham, Ipswich Town, Huddersfield Town, Nottingham Forest and West Bromwich Albion.

Man City defender Nat Ogbeta has been called up for the first time this season having previously been selected at under-16 level. Arsenal's Balogun is selected by England for the first time.

England have previously lifted the European Championship trophy in 2010 and 2014.
