Former Chelsea winger Florent Malouda has claimed he did not know his contract with FC Zurich had been terminated after the club tweeted a statement.

The Swiss club in February announced that the Frenchman was to join on March 1 as part of the coaching staff.

However, just 42 days later Zurich tweeted that they had ended his contract, saying in a post: 'FC Zurich and Florent Malouda have decided, by mutual agreement, to terminate the recently started cooperation.'

Malouda, who was somewhat surprised by the statement, replied: Really, I didn't know that??'

It would have been a first foray into coaching for the 38-year-old, who last played for Luxembourgish club FC Differdange 03 last year.

It appears a bizarre turn of events for Malouda, whose playing career, most notably with Chelsea and Lyon, yielded 13 trophies.

After signing the contract back in February, Malouda said: 'I am very motivated to work for the FCZ and the talks with the presidential couple have convinced me, it shares my passion and is as ambitious as I am.'

It now looks likely that will not happen and his fleeting spell at the Swiss club, who currently sit sixth in the 12-team Swiss Super League.
