Official announcement
Newcastle is delighted to announce the signing of Czech international goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek from Sporting Braga in Portugal.
The transfer fee for the 24-year-old goalkeeper has not been disclosed. He has signed a five-year contract at St. James' Park.
Last season, Lukas was a key player in Sporting Braga's run to the Europa League semifinals and, thanks to his excellent performances, was included in the Czech national team squad for this summer's World Cup.
Last season, he also helped the team finish fourth in the Primeira Liga, keeping 12 clean sheets and conceding just 33 goals throughout the season.
Lukas played for Sporting Braga for seven years, initially joining on loan from Pardubice in the Czech Republic in 2019. Thanks to his outstanding performances, he secured a permanent move, first establishing himself in Sporting Braga's B team before becoming the club's number one goalkeeper in January 2025.
He represented the Czech Republic at last summer's U21 European Championship and made his senior national team debut in May this year, starting in the Czech Republic's 2-1 friendly win over Kosovo.
