KuKonki had previously considered leaving Manchester United to seek first-team opportunities. According to the Manchester Evening News, after discussions and negotiations, he will remain at Manchester United after the transfer window closes.

The defender is currently in the third year of his academy contract, and Manchester United has been hoping to sign a professional contract with him, with both parties having reached an initial agreement last year.

The professional contract was not formally signed at the time, but KuKonki is now expected to complete the signing, committing his future to the club. If the contract can be finalized before the summer transfer deadline, the player may have the opportunity to go out on loan this season.

Several Championship clubs have inquired with Manchester United about loaning KuKonki, including Southampton, Norwich, and Birmingham, while European teams have also expressed interest. Many Premier League teams have also been closely following his progress.

The 18-year-old defender scored the equalizer for Manchester United U18s in last season's FA Youth Cup final against Manchester City. He started every game in the entire FA Youth Cup campaign and also had the opportunity to play for the U21 squad.

KuKonki, born in Stoke-on-Trent, was most recently included in the first-team squad for the away match against Newcastle United at St. James' Park in March. His only other appearance in a matchday squad last season was in January against Leeds United at Elland Road.

Shortly after Amorim took over, KuKonki was first called up to the first-team squad for a match against Arsenal. Amorim stated at the time that he was impressed by the young player, noting his exceptional mental maturity.

The 1.96m tall defender has continuously trained with the first team, and he was included in the squad for both legs of the Europa League quarter-final against Lyon.

The left-footed KuKonki is often compared to Manchester City defender Gvardiol. He played as a left-back in the academy system, but his long-term development is focused on the center-back position.
