In the summer transfer window, Juventus earned approximately €17 million from Bosnian defender Muharemovic's transfer from Sassuolo to Leeds United. Juventus announced on July 22: "Juventus Football Club S.p.A. announces that following Sassuolo's permanent transfer of player Muharemovic to Leeds United Football Club, completed on July 16, 2024, Juventus has obtained a right to payment, known as a 'sell-on clause', in accordance with the contract signed with Sassuolo in August 2023. This clause originated from the agreement signed when the player's sporting rights were transferred to Sassuolo in that year. This transaction has resulted in a positive economic impact of approximately €17.4 million for the current fiscal year, after deducting related costs." The initial transaction referenced by Juventus was the transfer of the 2003-born central defender from Juventus to Sassuolo. Sassuolo paid approximately €3 million for him, but Juventus retained a 50% sell-on clause for any future transfer, which yielded significant returns weeks later.

Kaio Jorge could be next

The Muharemovic case illustrates how sell-on clauses can become increasingly important for club finances. Juventus could also receive substantial income from another player who departed earlier. That player is Kaio Jorge. Juventus sold the striker to Cruzeiro for €7.2 million in summer 2024, while retaining a 30% sell-on clause on any future transfer.

Kaio Jorge is Cruzeiro's star player

Kaio Jorge, born in 2002, is currently 22 years old. He finished as the top scorer in the 2024 Brazilian Serie A with 21 goals and continues to perform well this season, despite a foot injury that sidelined him for several weeks. Recent reports suggest that Bayern Munich is very interested in him, with the club sending scouts to Brazil to observe him closely. If negotiations were to materialize, the deal would likely exceed €45 million. Juventus would benefit from such a transfer and could receive €10 to €15 million if the deal goes through. This represents significant profit compared to when he left Turin two years ago, when he had yet to score a goal for the first team.
