Senegal announces the latest squad list: Mane excluded due to injury as Ndiaye and Jackson included

On September 18, head coach Vieira announced the latest squad list for the Senegal national team, with players such as Jackson and Koulibaly selected.

Notably absent from the squad is Senegal's star player Mane. Following the World Cup, some Senegalese media reported that Mane would announce his retirement from the national team, but this report was later denied. Now, with Vieira's first squad announcement, Mane remains excluded.

Addressing Mane's absence, head coach Vieira explained the reasons at a press conference. Vieira stated that Mane is currently dealing with a muscle injury and therefore did not participate in this national team training camp.

Vieira said: "Mane picked up a slight physical problem after his last match, which is why he is absent. It's nothing serious. He will rejoin us for the next training camp."

Vieira also revealed that he had communicated with Mane by phone and confirmed that the Senegalese team's key player is expected to return for the next international break.

Following the World Cup, some Senegalese media outlets had reported that Mane would retire from the national team, but those reports were subsequently refuted. Vieira's statement now further confirms that Mane has not announced his retirement from the Senegal national team.

During this international break, Senegal will face Mozambique and Ethiopia in 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches, followed by a friendly against Comoros.
