Vancouver Whitecaps FC officially announced that the club has completed a contract extension with 37-year-old German veteran Müller. The new contract will run through the end of the 2027 MLS Sprint Season.

The MLS Sprint Season is a one-off, shortened independent season established by Major League Soccer to transition to a calendar-year format.

Whitecaps FC Sporting Director Axel Schuster stated that since Müller joined the team over a year ago, he has fully integrated into the club, the city, and the community. Schuster believes that Müller has strengthened the winning mentality the team has built in recent years while demonstrating a strong commitment to help the club succeed and win championships.

Schuster noted that since Müller's arrival, the Whitecaps have achieved significant breakthroughs, including their first MLS Cup appearance, and have become one of the top teams in the league. Müller has played a crucial role in these achievements through his outstanding ability, on-field performance, and leadership, and the club is delighted to continue working with him.

Müller joined Vancouver Whitecaps FC in August 2025. To date, he has made 45 appearances for the team, scoring 19 goals and providing 12 assists, for a direct goal contribution of 31. During this period, he helped the team win the 2025 MLS Western Conference Championship and the 2025 TELUS Canadian Championship and was selected for the 2026 MLS All-Star roster.

This season, Müller has made 32 appearances across all competitions, with 23 starts, contributing 10 goals and 8 assists. In MLS play, he has created 51 chances and 13 big chances, both ranking among the team's best. Additionally, he has been named to the MLS Team of the Week five times this season and participated in the 2026 MLS All-Star Game, where he won the shooting challenge and set a new record.

Müller stated that he has greatly enjoyed his time with the Whitecaps and finds Vancouver welcoming and friendly. The team plays an attacking, possession-based style of football, which makes the game enjoyable for both players and fans. He said he is in excellent physical condition and continues to enjoy playing every week. He is happy to continue with the Whitecaps and looks forward to achieving more success this year and in the 2027 MLS Sprint Season.

Müller demonstrated excellent goal involvement in his first season with the Whitecaps. In 2025, he made 13 appearances with 12 starts and contributed 9 goals and 4 assists across 8 consecutive games, setting a new club record for consecutive games with goal involvement. Notably, against Philadelphia Union, Müller scored a hat-trick—his sixth career hat-trick—and became the first player in MLS history to score a hat-trick on his birthday.

To date, Müller has made 932 appearances for club and country throughout his career, winning 36 trophies and contributing 315 goals and 291 assists.

According to the official announcement, Vancouver Whitecaps FC completed the contract extension with attacking midfielder Müller on September 29, 2026. The new contract will run through the end of the 2027 MLS Sprint Season.
