According to Corriere dello Sport, FIFA President Gianni Infantino travelled to Tashkent, Uzbekistan, on September 30 to meet President Mirziyoyev and discuss preparations for the 2027 FIFA U-20 World Cup. The tournament will be jointly hosted by Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan.

Infantino also met with Fabio Cannavaro, the captain of Italy's 2006 FIFA World Cup-winning team and current head coach of the Uzbekistan national team. Cannavaro said: "I am very pleased to see him here, as his presence is a great source of encouragement for the football federation, which is making significant investments in youth development and nurturing new talent."
