Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa on Thursday declined to comment directly on the controversy surrounding Ronaldo and the Portuguese national team, instead calling for unity during a critical phase for the squad.

Arriving at the Congress Palace on La Toja island in Galicia, Spain, de Sousa told reporters: "I will not speak about this here (referring to Ronaldo leaving the Portuguese training camp); what matters are the things that unite us."
De Sousa stated that Portugal is at a "critical moment" and should focus on the upcoming matches. Regarding the team's next tasks, de Sousa said: "Portugal must win today, and must win on Sunday. Therefore, all of us must unite to help the team achieve this goal."
