According to Sport, Ronaldo has withdrawn from the Portuguese national team following his absence from the match against Norway and his dissatisfaction with Jorge Jesus' pre-match press conference remarks. It remains unclear whether he will return to international football.

Ronaldo later stated on social media: "When the time is right, I will tell all Portuguese people the reasons behind my decision to leave the national team. I have always been fully committed to this team. Now it is time to wish Portugal and all my teammates well, without exception."
Sport consulted psychologist and coach Carles Marcos to analyze Ronaldo's actions. Marcos stated that Ronaldo "is one of the best players in the world," but also "one of the most stubborn."
Marcos commented: "He has always had narcissistic tendencies, but this also gives him strong self-confidence and makes him believe that the success of the team he plays for is somehow dependent on his presence."
He added: "He is no longer young at the top level of football, and although he still performs well in weaker leagues, this makes him feel he can still contribute significantly to the national team. But perhaps he has failed to accept that he can no longer be the central figure around whom everything revolves."
Marcos believes that stepping away from football will be particularly difficult for Ronaldo because he continues to pursue records and fears being forgotten. He stated that Ronaldo's actions are "not helpful at all" and that "it is time to start accepting the end of an era."
