Netherlands head coach Xavi Unai Hernandez typically announces the starting lineup to his players just 90 minutes before kickoff, but at Saturday's press conference, he appeared to inadvertently reveal that Van Dijk would start against Serbia on Sunday.

Xavi Unai Hernandez usually announces the starting lineup to his players an hour and a half before a match. However, during the Netherlands' press conference on Saturday, he slipped and revealed that Virgil Van Dijk would start against Serbia on Sunday—or so it seemed at the time.
The Dutch coach praised Van Dijk, who has already earned 99 caps for the national team. Van Dijk could become the eleventh player to represent the Netherlands at least 100 times on Sunday. Speaking about Van Dijk's potential 100-cap milestone, Xavi said, "It's very special. 100 international matches is fantastic. You have to stay healthy and maintain a high level under different coaches for a long time. For Virgil, it shows he is a top player."
Xavi then added, "He will play tomorrow." However, he quickly realized that this was not what he intended to say and corrected himself: "No, let's see if he plays before the match tomorrow. He is still very healthy and playing well. Will his family be here? That adds pressure. I won't say whether he will play or not."
