Jorge Jesus has left the door ajar for Cristiano Ronaldo to return to the Portugal squad in the November international break.

Ronaldo caused a storm last week when he left Portugal's squad, reportedly due to a disagreement with coach Jesus over his game time.

Portugal have won the two games since Ronaldo departed their camp, with his de facto replacement, Goncalo Ramos, netting in both matches.

The Selecao's 12 points from their opening four Nations League games mean they have already qualified for the next round of the competition.

But Jesus, who coached Ronaldo at Al-Nassr, says the 41-year-old will be welcomed back to the fold if he chooses to return next month.

"I don't know what Cristiano will decide," said Jesus after Portugal's 2-1 win over Norway on Sunday.

"I've already said what I had to say, but I'll add that this was all, for me, never an issue. I thought it was normal, as a coach, to have a player who is a symbol for the national team.

"There's nothing here that I, as a coach, have to consider non-negotiable. Since there was nothing special in terms of my authority, for me, Cris, in the next call-up, if he's playing for Al Nassr, will be available.

"If he wants to return, he will return. It's hard to understand. Just because it was him, the problem of warming up and not playing was created – and perhaps rightly so, because he's a symbol. That happens with all players.

"How many warmed up [against Norway] and didn't play? It's always like that. Cris is different because he's a symbol, but, for me, it wasn't a problem.

"If he wants to and is playing, he'll be in the next call-up, like in this one. Cris will decide."

Jesus, ideally, wants to have the situation resolved before the next batch of fixtures, however.

"Yes, I agree, but it's not up to me," he added.

"An agreement requires two people. This decision is not mine to make."
