In an interview with The Athletic, Conte stated that he hopes to manage a fallen giant club and help it return to glory. He added that he would also consider taking over a team mid-season if the opportunity was right.

Conte said: "I am very clear that only one team can win the league every year, but I have to carry that spark, that hope, in my heart, and transmit it to the fans, players and management, so that everyone says, 'Damn, we can win'. Only by winning can you make history.

"There are many clubs that, in some ways, have forgotten their history. I want to go to one of these clubs, dust off that history, and make it shine again.

"With clubs under pressure, you ultimately know that you're not there just to participate, but to compete."
