According to Cadena SER, Mbappe did not stay at Real Madrid's training facility for recovery after leaving the French national team camp due to knee discomfort during the international break. Instead, he was seen engaging in other activities in France and elsewhere, reigniting long-standing discussion about the French star's attitude and his leadership status in Real Madrid's dressing room.

During Cadena SER's "El Larguero" program, several commentators analyzed Mbappe's recent schedule. Reporter Antonio Romero clarified that Mbappe is "not injured," but rather "experiencing discomfort." The issue is that when professional players experience such pain, they typically recover at their club, as this is not the type of injury requiring treatment from doctors or specialists you don't fully trust.

Cadena SER commentators noted that the club actually did authorize Mbappe to leave the Spanish capital, which in itself is not controversial. However, the problem is that "if you speak to people inside Real Madrid's dressing room," while "they're not shocked," they are somewhat surprised because "they've never seen a player aspiring to be a leader in Real Madrid's dressing room display the attitude Mbappe has shown over the past two seasons." Furthermore, this incident has also drawn focus to Mourinho, as "attention has now shifted directly to Mourinho's press conference on Friday."

Focus on Mourinho

Romero noted that what the Portuguese coach says at that press conference "will also be a message to his other teammates in the dressing room, who will see how Mourinho handles a player who is uncomfortable and not at Valdebebas during their break." Therefore, he has an opportunity to "express his opinion on the Mbappe situation and send a message to the dressing room, which will be closely watched by the players." The reporter believes that "if Mbappe doesn't receive a public or private rebuke from the coach, it could set a bad precedent for the dressing room, because this season is very long."

Further Context

Meanwhile, Javier Herráez emphasized that the club is not concerned about the bicycle incident or what Mbappe has been doing specifically lately. Their main concern is the team's competitive performance. Real Madrid's management believes that "Mourinho needs to improve his team's play" because "Real Madrid is currently facing football-related problems, and they won't go far playing like this." They view Mbappe's behavior as part of his personal style, meaning "he is naturally like this," and the club is "slowly getting to know him better," but team performance is what truly needs immediate attention.

He's the best player, but not a leader

"Mbappe is the best player in Real Madrid's squad, but I wouldn't even rank him in the top three candidates to be a dressing room leader," commented Manu Carreño. While he emphasized Mbappe's dominance on the pitch, "in terms of team leadership, dressing room presence, and other aspects, I'd rate him quite low." However, he believes the Frenchman himself may not care much about taking on that role, because despite external pressure for him to be a leader, Mbappe's own idea may be that his job is to score goals, and he certainly does that. "For those questioning whether Mbappe is here to be a leader, I think it's becoming increasingly clear: Mbappe is here to play football, and he plays it very well; he's here to score goals, and he does it better than anyone; but in terms of leading the team or setting an example, he still falls far short," he explained.

The host illustrated his argument with an analogy, saying he increasingly sees Mbappe "like a guitarist who has his next concert at the Bernabéu on Saturday. He arrives, opens his case, pulls out his guitar, plays a stunning solo that sets the Bernabéu on fire, and then leaves," until the next show. The problem is this doesn't work for every performance; sometimes his guitar might be out of tune, and that's the crux of the Mbappe issue: no one doubts his skill, but his attitude and role in the dressing room and at the club are very much in question.
