According to Tribal Football, former Man City player Shaun Wright-Phillips has said he does not agree with stripping players of their championship medals when discussing the charges against Man City.

Man City has consistently denied wrongdoing and has appealed the commission's ruling, with sanctions yet to be determined. Potential penalties include fines, points deductions, or even expulsion from the league. The charges relate to the period when Man City won three Premier League titles.
Wright-Phillips, who came through the Man City academy and had two stints with the club, stated that he is unsure what a fair outcome would be: "I'm not sure what would be fair, because from what I've seen and heard, it's quite unprecedented. But one thing I'll always stick by is: what the players, fans, and manager brought to that team cannot be bought. It takes certain individuals to gel a team like that. They put their bodies on the line, they got injuries to achieve those things. So for me, I'm not really one for taking away medals. That's just my personal opinion."
Regarding Maresca, Wright-Phillips believes he should not be compared to renowned managers like Guardiola. He said: "I think you can never compare anyone, and you shouldn't try to surpass people like Guardiola, Sir Alex Ferguson, or Arsène Wenger with your own standards. They made history in their own way. I think Maresca is coming in now, and he's going to make history in his own way and try to leave his own mark on this club."
Wright-Phillips also added that Maresca has made a perfect start, and the key will be to maintain momentum, keep pushing the players, and sustain or improve performances in subsequent matches and seasons. "Right now, I believe he can," he said.
