On October 12, Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard discussed Wirtz during an appearance on interview program.

Gerrard said: "I'm not sure if this Liverpool team is in a position to help Wirtz succeed right now. Perhaps if Mane, Firmino, and Salah were still here, he might be performing better.
If Liverpool could keep players like Barcola, Isak , Muñoz, Ekitiké, and Rio Ngumoha healthy and in good form, I think Wirtz would feel better because he'd have more opportunities to contribute and better teammates around him.
What I'm saying is, this kid's mindset right now—his confidence has completely crashed while wearing a Liverpool shirt. He's not performing well enough. We need to see more from Wirtz.
I think this young man needs help—help from his coach and coaching staff, help from the senior players in the team.
I can imagine him living alone in an apartment in Liverpool, perhaps in Hoylake or Formby. I don't know if he has a girlfriend, but I imagine he's blaming himself for his difficult start at Liverpool. In my view, this kid is a very talented player. I've seen enough to believe in him and to give him a chance.
For now, I think he needs help and support. That said, it would certainly help if Liverpool had more healthy and available players around him. The club has undergone significant changes and is in a transitional period, which is worth considering given the investment they've made.
But I think Wirtz needs help now. In this situation, with everyone in good form, perhaps the best approach would be to bring him off the bench for a few matches.
When I was struggling and needed my coach's support, I didn't see it that way at the time, but when the coach substituted me, benched me, or gave me rest—or sometimes just watching teammates perform well in my position—that feeling was genuinely frustrating and even a bit scary. You start thinking, maybe I'm no longer a starter, maybe I'm no longer Liverpool's number 10. That kind of experience might help Wirtz reset.
So there's a player here with enormous potential. Does he need help and support right now? Absolutely, because his confidence has been affected—I can see that clearly.
He needs to do more, he needs to work harder, he needs to understand the situation he's in. But I still believe he has a real chance. The Premier League is highly competitive.
Has he faced repeated setbacks in the Premier League? Yes, he's been affected. But with the right help and support across all areas, he can succeed at Liverpool. I wouldn't write him off yet. It's far too early to draw conclusions."
