Kerr stressed that he was unable to do his job effectively under the circumstances

Dylan Kerr has distanced himself from the poor performances posted by Gor Mahia recently after K’Ogalo picked their third straight league defeat on Wednesday.

The Kenyan champions have lost five straight matches in all competitions, the latest being a 2-0 defeat against Vihiga United. The Briton coach has come out to defend his technical bench for the recent run of form and instead pointed a finger at the events that were witnessed at the K’Ogalo’s camp in the recent past.

But Kerr blamed the recent slump in form to players’ boycott following delayed wages. “My job as head coach is to prepare and do my very best and I am very proud of that because of what we have achieved. Unfortunately, recent results have gone against us and especially me as a coach,” Kerr said in a lengthy statement.

A clearly dejected Kerr added: “In the past 25 days, my players boycotted training sessions. In fact in the entire month, we only had a training session together on Tuesday 25th September the day before Vihiga game (yesterday).

“In many occasions, my technical staff and l reported to training. For players, maybe one or two showed up but everyone else did not attend due to delayed August salary so we haven’t held a proper training session for a while now.

Kerr said that he had very little options but to use the players who were present in the last two games before Vihiga’s defeat. “Against Thika United and Ulinzi Stars, we selected players who reported for the game. The players looked disinterested, no match fitness and again, they were more focused on off the pitch happenings.

Kerr, who will lift his second KPL title with Gor Mahia on Saturday, stressed that he was unable to do his job effectively under the circumstances.

“My football ethics, philosophy and beliefs are being questioned because of our recent results without anyone bothering to look at the circumstances and facts around the team.”

Gor Mahia will receive their 17th KPL title after the game against Mathare United in Kisumu.
