Liverpool‘s attack finally clicked tonight as they thrashed Maribor to record their first victory in this season’s Champions League group phase.

Following a run of one win in eight games across all competitions prior to this evening’s clash in Slovenia, the Merseyside outfit showed no mercy against Maribor and in honesty had the game all-but wrapped up before half-time.

Roberto Firmino broke the deadlock as early as the fourth minute and from there on in the writing was on the wall. Mohamed Salah netted twice, Philippe Coutinho got on the scoresheet once again, the Reds no.9 helped himself to another, while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Trent Alexander-Arnold also netted.

Loris Karius – 6/10

The German keeper hasn’t covered himself in any glory during his first two appearances in the competition, but probably won’t have a more easier night that today. Made a couple of routine saves and is probably looking forward to the return clash.

Trent Alexander-Arnold – 7/10

Nathaniel Clyne’s injury has afforded both Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez more minutes at right-back this season and neither has shied away from the opportunity. Tonight it was a chance for the former – who is more of an attacking threat and netted his first Champions League goal proper late on.

Joel Matip – 7/10

Limited Maribor to nothing in the second half. Won all of his headed duels, completed 96% of his passes and was solid.

Dejan Lovren – 7/10

Back-to-back solid games for the Croatian defender. Not that he was put under too much pressure tonight but remained focused throughout.

Alberto Moreno – 8/10

Whilst Liverpool were virtually in attack mode from minute one, Moreno still got through quite a bit of defensive work by winning three tackles. Going forward he was just as effective. Claimed an assist and caused the Maribor defence problems with his raids down the left.

Emre Can – 7/10

Operated in a deep-lying midfield position in the absence of club captain Jordan Henderson and was the orchestrator by completing 90% of his passes. Also filled in for Moreno at left-back when the Spaniard went forward.

James Milner – 8/10

Took the armband from Henderson and delivered a typical steady performance. Lead by example and probably would have been the man of the match had it not been for the exploits of the front three. Staked his claim for a regular spot in central midfield.

Georginio Wijnaldum – 5/10

In a game where the Reds were so dominant, the Dutchman was rather ineffective. Completed 86% of his passes but failed to create a single chance or attempt a take-on and should be concerned about his place following Milner’s display.

Mohamed Salah – 9/10

Two goals plus an assist for Liverpool’s player of the season thus far. Got the ball rolling by winning the ball back in a dangerous position before squaring for Firmino to tap home from close range. Took his goals very well and was always a threat to the Maribor threat before being replaced after 56 minutes.

Roberto Firmino – 9/10

The goal drought is over. The Brazilian was one of the Reds’ bright sparks in the 0-0 draw with Manchester United at the weekend and all that was missing was a goal. Tonight – against considerably weaker opposition – he got two and his second was a brilliant deft header. Also set up Salah’s first goal.

Philippe Coutinho – 9/10

Rounding off a very impressive display from Liverpool’s hugely talented attacking trio is the Brazilian who has wasted no time in proving just how good he is. His goal in the first-half means he’s now netted in four consecutive away games and also provided an assist for compatriot Firmino and Alexander-Arnold.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – 7/10

Replaced Salah after 56 minutes and could have netted within seconds but couldn’t find the target. Made no mistake with his shot towards the end and that might be the confidence boost he so desperately needed.

Daniel Sturridge – 6/10

Came on for Firmino. Wasn’t able to fill his boots with a goal but did play the pass from which Oxlade-Chamberlain netted his first goal for the club.
