According to Sport, the left-wing coalition in the Spanish Congress of Deputies has registered a proposal requesting that Spain not co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup with Morocco.

The proposal was submitted by the left-wing coalition in Congress, promoted by IU. The proposal states that the recent crisis in Ceuta revealed a "humanitarian tragedy of an exceptionally large scale" in the border region. The proposal points out that while an independent investigation is needed to ultimately determine the causes and responsibilities of the incident, the scale of the events, the failure of prevention mechanisms, and documented precedents are enough to force a reassessment of the trust relationship underpinning the joint FIFA World Cup bid.

The proposal also asks the Spanish Football Federation to request FIFA to review its statutes and conduct an "independent, public, and up-to-date assessment" of human rights risks in host countries. They also requested an evaluation of the impact of the migration crisis on the "relevant human rights commitments" of the event, and to submit recommendations for further action to Congress if any severe violations of international commitments and human rights obligations by a host country are confirmed.
