Valencia Club de Fútbol has reached an agreement with Javier Aguirre, who will become the new head coach of the first team.

The Mexican coach's contract runs until the end of the current season, with the club holding an option to extend it for one year.

Born in Mexico City on December 1, 1958, Aguirre joins Valencia after coaching the Mexican national team at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America, where Mexico was eliminated in the Round of 16. This marks his third World Cup as Mexico's coach, having previously led the team at the 2002 Korea-Japan World Cup and the 2010 South Africa World Cup.

Throughout his extensive coaching career, Valencia's new head coach has managed clubs such as Osasuna, Atlético Madrid, Real Zaragoza, Espanyol, Leganés, and Mallorca in La Liga. He also possesses rich overseas coaching experience with clubs and national teams in Japan, the UAE, Egypt, and Mexico.

His main achievements in Spain include winning the Copa del Rey with Real Zaragoza in 2004 and guiding Osasuna to Champions League qualification. On the international stage, he led Mexico to victory in the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2009 and 2015, as well as the CONCACAF Nations League in 2024. In Mexico's domestic league, he led Pachuca to the title in 1999 and Monterrey to the CONCACAF Champions League title in 2021.

Javier Aguirre will be officially introduced to the media as Valencia's new head coach at a press conference in the Mestalla Stadium press room on Monday, September 28, local time.

Valencia has had a poor start to the season, sitting at the bottom of the league with one draw and four losses in their first five matches. Head coach Corberán and his entire coaching staff were dismissed, and CEO Gurley has also resigned.
