Allardyce stated in a podcast that both Liverpool and Alexander-Arnold could benefit from a reunion, suggesting that Alexander-Arnold should return to the Premier League if he cannot secure more playing time at Real Madrid.

Alexander-Arnold joined Real Madrid for £10 million in June last year, just before his contract with Liverpool expired. His first season at Real Madrid has been hampered by injuries and inconsistent form. He has yet to become a regular starter since Carlo Ancelotti took over as Real Madrid manager this summer.

Despite being left out of England's recent World Cup squad, Alexander-Arnold returned to the England squad this week, named in Tuchel's Nations League squad for matches against Spain, Czech Republic, and Croatia.

Allardyce, the former Everton manager and former England manager, said: "At 27 years old, Alexander-Arnold has many years of football ahead of him and is currently in his prime. His experience at Real Madrid will make him a better player than when he left Liverpool, even if his playing time doesn't meet expectations.

"If he stays at Real Madrid, he needs more opportunities to play this season; otherwise, he should return to the Premier League. Liverpool will need him.

"He has the ability to create chances through opposing defences. His defensive abilities have always been questioned, and not without reason, but most modern right-backs are similar: they leave themselves exposed and don't stop crosses."

Allardyce also said on the podcast: "During the final stages of Klopp's tenure, Liverpool's form declined and they conceded more goals, so Alexander-Arnold's defensive abilities came under scrutiny. But his defending is not significantly worse than most full-backs.

"Ball handling and the ability to break down opposing defences with both short and long passes are important assets for the England team. I'm pleased to see him back."
