Match Report

On the field, Georgia had the better opportunities. The hosts recorded 13 shots to Ukraine's seven, but could not beat goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin. The 0-0 result left Georgia with one point from its first two Group B2 matches and Ukraine unbeaten after opening its campaign with a victory over Hungary.

Ukraine nearly scored after four minutes when Matvii Ponomarenko sent an effort narrowly wide. Georgia's first clear spell of pressure came around the 20-minute mark. Giorgi Chakvetadze struck from distance, drawing a sharp save from Trubin, and Saba Goglichidze headed over from the resulting corner. Just before halftime, Georgia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili stopped a shot from Oleksandr Zubkov.

Georgia captain Khvicha Kvaratskhelia was a persistent threat alongside Georges Mikautadze, with Chakvetadze and Giorgi Tsitaishvili also in the starting side. Giorgi Kochorashvili and Otar Kiteishvili began in midfield, while Mamardashvili played behind a defense that included Luka Lochoshvili, Lasha Dvali, Goglichidze and Otar Kakabadze. It was Ramaz Svanadze's second match in charge of Georgia.

Ukraine coach Andrea Maldera made extensive changes after the win in Hungary. Trubin started in goal behind Taras Mykhavko, Eduard Sarapiy and Valeriy Bondar. Ponomarenko partnered Vladyslav Vanat in attack, with Maksym Khlan, Zubkov, Oleksandr Pikhalyonok and Yehor Nazaryna among the starters. Maldera made three substitutions at halftime, bringing on Danylo Sikan, Roman Yaremchuk and Oleh Ocheretko.

The second half offered fewer openings. In the 64th minute, Kvaratskhelia reached a tight angle inside the area and forced another save from Trubin. Georgia sent on Zuriko Davitashvili and Saba Kvernadze as it pursued a winner. Ocheretko later tested Mamardashvili from distance for Ukraine, and Trubin gathered a final attempt from Kvaratskhelia. Neither goalkeeper conceded.
