According to talkSPORT, Danny Murphy believes Gordon hasn't yet acquired new skills at Barcelona and still has room for improvement.

Although Gordon has recently scored for England against Spain and the Czech Republic, he has yet to score in La Liga for Barcelona this season, despite providing 4 assists for Flick's side.

Speaking on the 'White & Jordan' show on Wednesday, Danny Murphy said: "I've always been a big fan of Anthony Gordon. When Newcastle signed him from Everton for £40 million, I said it was a good deal, and people laughed at me back then.

"I think when you move to a team that dominates possession and has world-class players, his confidence and belief increased. He'll have more of the ball, and people will see his qualities more clearly. His ability, professionalism, resilience, and pace have always been there.

"When Gordon was at Newcastle, the team's form was inconsistent, so he was sometimes praised and sometimes criticized. His statistics at Newcastle weren't standout because the team couldn't maintain dominance in matches and competitions."

Murphy commented on Gordon's performance at Barcelona: "At Barcelona, he's always playing well, but I don't think his football intelligence has improved. I just think he's a very good player. Playing for Barcelona right now has made some people rate him higher, but I don't think he's learned new skills or improved his football intelligence in two months.

"In another year, playing alongside those players and experiencing the quality of their football, you might see him learn new things."

Murphy also said: "I've always felt that with Gordon's ability, even at Newcastle, he should have had better statistics. Anyone watching can see his pace, and his movement off the ball as well as his effort are always excellent, which I really like.

"He's a team player. At Newcastle, his finishing was somewhat inconsistent. He was always moving into great positions, so I don't think he's just a running machine. I've always liked him and believe he has the potential to play brilliantly, and I hope we'll see that at Barcelona.

"But let's not forget, he still hasn't scored for Barcelona, and he hasn't started every match, so we need to look at these things objectively. I like confident players, and I hope he continues to perform well at Barcelona. It's good to see English players go abroad and do well. I'm not bothered by his confidence, and I know some people criticize him, thinking he should be more humble. But confidence is good; I just hope he maintains it."
