David Ornstein stated today on "The Overlap" that he received online criticism and abuse from some Manchester City fans after breaking the news last week about Manchester City's Financial Fair Play violations. He emphasized that he has always adhered to journalistic standards in his work.

This matter has the potential to become one of the biggest scandals in football history. The Premier League has confirmed that 114 of the 115 charges Manchester City faces are being pursued, involving serious financial misconduct. Ornstein originally broke this story in The Athletic and explained on today's program how he obtained the information and verified each detail before publication. As one of the most trusted journalists in the industry, he maintained that he followed proper procedures despite the online criticism and abuse from Manchester City fans.

Regarding his initial reporting of Manchester City's violations, Ornstein stated: "This is one of the most distressing events in British, European, and indeed world football history, and I take no pleasure in it. I'm not excited about discovering that a club has engaged in serious misconduct, or about the fact that they continue to deny it.

I'm simply doing my job. Manchester City and other clubs understand that. That's why this entire process has progressed relatively amicably, because that's how I've conducted myself throughout my career. Moreover, this matter is in the public interest.

I received plenty of criticism and abuse from Manchester City fans claiming that someone leaked this news to me by phone. But this is not a leak. I don't consider it a leak. The definition of a leak may vary from person to person. I believe I uncovered this story and completed very important reporting following proper procedures. Interestingly, I've received no complaints from club officials. All the complaints and criticism came from social media, where people were emotional and many were frustrated."
