According to Cronachemaceratesi.it, Materazzi discussed his relationship with Benítez at the Overtime Festival, stating that Benítez held a negative bias against him because he reminded him of Mourinho.

During his appearance at the Overtime Festival at the Lauro Rossi Theatre in Macerata, Materazzi recalled several moments from his career. Discussing his relationship with Rafael Benítez, he said that Benítez was unpopular in Inter Milan's dressing room after replacing Mourinho, who had led the team to a treble. Materazzi said: "Mourinho always resonated with everyone and always patted you on the shoulder. For him, you would walk through fire and water. By contrast, Benítez had a bad impression of me from the start because every time he saw me, he was reminded of Mourinho."

Materazzi also recalled an incident during Leonardo's time as Inter Milan's manager. Before a derby, he suggested to Leonardo that Lúcio, who had already accumulated yellow cards, should sit out to avoid suspension for the next match against Milan due to a ban. Lúcio ultimately received a suspension, and Inter Milan lost that match.

Speaking about San Siro, Materazzi said: "I have played in many important stadiums, such as Old Trafford in Manchester and the Bernabéu, but no stadium compares to San Siro. Players like me and Balotelli know how to ignite San Siro's passion with a single action or move, and Lautaro does the same now. He was angry at the referee in the match against Napoli, which fired up San Siro and sparked Inter Milan's comeback."
