Mikel Arteta was confirmed to have signed a new deal earlier this week and Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho has spoken out on the Spaniard’s decision to commit his future to the Gunners

Jose Mourinho has claimed that he would not get the time Mikel Arteta has received at Arsenal with Real Madrid. Mourinho, 63, returned to the Bernabeu in the summer following a spell with Portuguese giants Benfica.

Since his first spell at the helm, Real have had nine different managers, albeit both Carlo Ancelotti and Zinedine Zidane have both had multiple stints at the club.

In the meantime, Arsenal have only had three managers, with Arsene Wenger, Unai Emery and Arteta having been entrusted. And it seems as though the Spaniard is going to stay for further yet, having penned a new contract until 2030, having been in charge until 2030.

And Mourinho believes that he would not be afforded to same treatment with his current employers. He said: "Yesterday, I read something interesting that would not happen at Real Madrid.

"Mikel Arteta renewed his contract and said something like 'we are still starting' and 'this is just the beginning' and he has been there for years. The demands here are just different."

Away from Mourinho, Arsenal star Declan Rice has also commented on the decision to hand Arteta a new deal and appears to be a big fan. Speaking to ESPN Brazil, the midfielder said: "It's just tactically, training, managing, the detail he goes into, the things he sees that you would never see.”

"He's constantly watching you when you don't think you're being watched. He's watching, constantly asking questions to try and catch you out, to see if you're listening. He's always keeping you on your toes, making sure that you're ready."

He added: "Every time we go into games, tactically we know what we're doing. Defensively, with the ball, how we're going to beat the opposition. It's just the fine details, the way he breaks everything down, which makes him the best for me.

“It's amazing that he [Arteta] signed a new contract and we get to have him as our manager for the next four years. So, we'll be very lucky."

Arteta and Mourinho will be direct rivals later this season with Arsenal set to host Real Madrid in a Champions League clash in December. The pair have clashed on three occasions in the past, Mourinho having been successful in two of those meetings, albeit the most recent clash went in Arteta and Arsenal’s favour back in March 2021.
