Wayne Rooney singled out Gravenberch for a "silly" second yellow card against Manchester City on Sunday, which left Liverpool playing with ten men. Manchester City defeated the Reds 3-0 at Anfield, with Haaland, Doku, and Foden quickly capitalizing on the numerical advantage to dismantle a team already weakened by absences and injuries.

Rooney told BBC's Match of the Day: "I thought the first yellow card was very harsh. I think he's clearly going for the ball, Elliot-Anderson's touch wasn't great, and then he just clips him, catches his ankle, and he goes down, so that probably shouldn't have been a booking."
"But for me, the second one is a yellow card. When you're already on a booking, you put yourself in a position where you could get another yellow card and get sent off, so that second yellow was a bit naive and silly."
Host Gabby Logan then added: "We should also clarify that it's not about the force of the tackle; it's about stopping a promising attack, which is why it was given as a yellow card."
Former Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld, also appearing as a pundit, explained: "Yes, definitely, because I think Gravenberch thought he could get to the ball first, but Doku was too quick. He got there first, and then there's a little foul, but again, he stopped a promising attack, so he got the yellow card for that."
