Hartlepool launched an investigation on Sunday after Ebbsfleet striker Jermaine McGlashan accused opposing fans of calling him a 'n*****'.

The Ebbsfleet striker made officials aware following his side's 1-0 win over Hartlepool on Saturday that he had suffered racial abuse from home supporters during the Conference Premier fixture.

Officials have taken statements from the players following the incident. Meanwhile, the behaviour of an official mascot is also being examined after evidence came to light of a clash at the end of the game with Ebbsfleet team members.

Footage also shows jeers ringing out after a PA announcement requesting that racial abuse was put to an end.

The Ebbsfleet striker tweeted about the incident after the game, thanking the Hartlepool players for showing care and support.

'Class from the few ­Hartlepool players that came to see how I was today after being racially abused – not for the first time in a game,' he said.

'No room whatsoever for it & hope it gets dealt with accordingly!' McGlashan has also ­endured abuse on social media since Saturday.'

A statement from Hartlepool said that the club would 'hide would nothing in our thorough examination of the facts and will respond to any enquiries from any authorities.

'Hartlepool United condemn abuse of any nature and we will continue to work closely with the ­relevant bodies to ensure that Victoria Park is a safe and welcoming environment for all supporters, staff and players.'
