This decision also brings stability back to a tournament that has undergone multiple adjustments. Historically, the Copa América was held at different intervals before gradually shifting to a four-year cycle. To commemorate the tournament's centennial, a special Copa América Centenario was held in 2016, followed by tournaments in 2019 and 2021. The 2021 tournament was postponed by one year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. After 2024, the Copa América will maintain a long-term four-year rhythm, similar to the UEFA European Championship.
