The former Real Madrid player has commented on Portuguese manager José Mourinho's return to Madrid after 13 years, and also discussed Tottenham's recent situation.

Gareth Bale, who was attending a golf event in Wales, spoke to Sky Sports about José Mourinho's return to Real Madrid after 13 years.

"I don't think anything in football surprises you anymore. José Mourinho is a great manager, and of course, I wish him all the best. I hope he wins some trophies," he said. Although the two were not teammates at the Spanish capital for an extended period, they did work together at Tottenham.

Bale, who retired in January 2023 and had two spells at Spurs, called for more patience with the club. "There have been a lot of new signings, and sometimes it takes a bit of time to adapt. The manager has proven he can play good football, and I think people still trust him now. Adaptation takes time, and I believe if they are given time, things will work out," he said, expressing confidence in manager Ange Postecoglou despite the team scoring just one goal in five matches.

"Qualify for European football? I hope so. I think because we finished in 17th place two years in a row, expectations should be a bit lower. The team needs to improve, and they have done that. Hopefully, they can gel quickly and start winning," he added.
