Emery explained the winger's situation after the win against Coventry, admitting that his turbulent pre-season – including a transfer and a facial injury – had affected his playing opportunities.

The Villa boss explained: "He has to keep working. Work, work, train, work. When he gets playing time, he tries to play well. He's improving, but right now there are more players ahead of him."
