On September 21, the Spanish Football Federation officially announced that Spain has extended head coach Luis de la Fuente's contract until 2032.

The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has reached an agreement to extend the contract of Luis de la Fuente, head coach of the Spanish senior national team. In the same meeting, the federation also approved the contract extension of Jesús Velasco, head coach of the Spanish national futsal team, through 2029.

The Board of Directors of the RFEF, chaired by Rafael Louzan, met at the Ciudad del Fútbol de Las Rozas and unanimously approved the extension of Luis de la Fuente's contract through 2032. De la Fuente will continue leading the Spanish national team under this new agreement. Spain won the UEFA European Championship in 2024 and the UEFA Nations League in 2024.

Rafael Louzan stated at the board meeting: "We are seeking a stable project built on mutual trust. This proposal reflects our confidence in Luis de la Fuente and the sporting vision he leads, positioning us to compete for major tournaments in the coming years. De la Fuente is the most successful coach in Spanish national team history. Having been with the federation for 14 years, he deserves a long-term commitment from the RFEF."

De la Fuente's extended contract will enable him to lead Spain through the 2030 FIFA World Cup, the 2028 UEFA European Championship, and the 2032 UEFA European Championship. The 2030 World Cup will be co-hosted by Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Paraguay, Uruguay, and Argentina.

The agreement will be formally presented at an event at the Ciudad del Fútbol, attended by de la Fuente and representatives from Spanish football. The occasion will also mark the beginning of the next chapter for the team, which includes competing for the 2028 European Championship and the upcoming UEFA Nations League. Nations League matches will take place in September and early October, with Spain facing England, Croatia, and the Czech Republic.

The federation also confirmed the contract extension of Jesús Velasco, head coach of the Spanish national futsal team, through July 2029, with details to be announced separately.

De la Fuente, 65, began coaching Spain's youth national teams in 2013 and became head coach of the senior national team in 2023. Under his leadership, Spain has won the FIFA World Cup, the UEFA European Championship, and the UEFA Nations League.
