ESPN reports that CEO Vinay Venkatessham has publicly backed Roberto De Zerbi after Tottenham Hotspur's poor start to the new season.

Tottenham Hotspur CEO Vinay Venkatessham has publicly expressed his support for Roberto De Zerbi following the team's difficult start to the season.
Tottenham sit bottom of the Premier League table, still winless after five matches. Despite investing over £380 million in new signings this summer, the team's performance has not improved.
However, Venkatessham pointed to "underlying performance," stating that Tottenham created many good chances against Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest, and Everton but failed to capitalize on them.
He said at the season's first Fan Advisory Board meeting last week that he was "encouraged by some of the underlying performance since the opening day defeat to Brentford."
The Tottenham Hotspur CEO also acknowledged that the team's current points tally was disappointing for supporters, particularly following last season, making the frustration understandable.
With 10 new signings arriving and experienced players like Vicario, Spence, Cristian Romero, Kevin Danso, and Palhinha departing, Venkatessham emphasized his confidence in De Zerbi and the revamped squad.
Venkatessham said at the meeting: "The club has undergone significant changes on and off the pitch this summer and recognizes that it will take time for these changes to fully materialize."
He continued: "I have confidence in Roberto De Zerbi, the players we've brought in, and these adjustments. A lot of work is still being done behind the scenes."
Tottenham spent heavily this summer to sign Sandro Tonali, Matheus Fernandes, and Savinho, while also recouping approximately £150 million from player departures. Talented youngster Luka Vuskovic joined Brighton for £50 million.
Next season, Tottenham will also see additional income as the loan agreements for Dragusin and Danso include mandatory buy clauses, while Vicario and Pape Sarr also have permanent departure options attached to their transfers to Juventus.
Venkatessham also addressed the financial constraints facing the North London club following the Lewis family's injection of another £120 million last month.
He stated at the meeting: "The club needs to improve its ability to sell players. Returns in this area have been limited in recent years, and in modern football, this is crucial for complying with financial regulations."
He continued: "Financial regulations indeed pose real constraints. The club has not been profitable since 2019, and as investments in the men's squad increase, so do wage and transfer fee expenditures."
"Finishing 17th for two consecutive seasons and having no European competition revenue this season have also impacted the club's financial position."
The club also confirmed that Tottenham has made significant adjustments in the medical, physical preparation, and performance departments to address the issue of excessive injuries. The training center has also been upgraded to help mitigate this situation.
