Coventry defeated Newcastle 4-1 at home, securing their second consecutive victory in the Premier League. After the match, Coventry manager Frank Lampard spoke to Sky Sports about the team's overall performance, Sidiqqi Shodipo's potential, and the contribution of substitute players.

Well done, Frank. Another win and four goals scored. How pleased are you with a performance like tonight?
Very, very pleased. It's a tough win, I said that before the game. To beat Nottingham Forest away and then come home and get two wins on the bounce is not easy. But we played the way we wanted to play. Looking at this team, you can feel the desire and energy of this group.
We know that this season, there will be tough moments in many matches. There will be times when the opposition controls the ball, and we have to understand and accept that, because that's how it works at this level. But the lads' effort and belief ultimately got them the reward they deserved, like those brilliant goals.
We haven't had much luck so far this season. With a bit more luck, we could have two extra points than we have now. But I always believe that if you stick at it, you'll get rewarded. The substitutes came on and used their energy to help the team, and they scored as well. However, even with a performance as complete as that, we have to keep our feet on the ground. At the end of the day, tonight was just one game, and we still have over thirty more to play. But it's really great for the lads to experience all of this first-hand.
The players scored early in both halves, which set the tone for the game. How pleased were you with that?
It's really important that we got off to a good start today. I know what kind of team they are, and I have a general idea of how their manager wants them to play. I think they came here and played with a lot of energy, like most teams nowadays, right?
Every team emphasizes physicality, and matches are largely about competing for every phase of play, winning the first and second contact battles. If you can get into that state early, especially in a home match, it's brilliant. Of course, we also scored goals, which was great for us. So yes, that's something we always emphasize, and the lads showed that well.
Sidiqqi Shodipo really showed himself tonight, didn't he? That goal was brilliant. What's his potential? How far do you hope to see him develop?
Plenty, because he's still very young, only nineteen. He's got a brilliant attitude and is a good lad. He's willing to train and learn. He's usually quiet, but tonight he showed real character on the pitch. He never stopped running.
He'll only get better because we can continue to help him. I think, with time, he'll keep developing. When you see the quality of his shot, and you see that at nineteen, he has that desire and such brilliant ball retention, you know he has a lot more to show.
What went through your mind when they scored to make it closer? Because they did put pressure on you before that, didn't they?
I thought, how many more centre-backs will shoot into the top corner of our goal this season? Because that doesn't happen often. After that goal, the last twenty minutes felt very long. It was a brilliant finish. They created some chances, which we have to accept, but we also defended very well at times.
A couple of their players had a spell of good form, and they put real pressure on our defence in the second half, which gave us some problems. So yes, that was clearly a concern.
However, we also started to make changes because the lads had given a lot to the game. At this stage, you need good players who've trained hard all week and are desperate to play. They're sat on the bench saying to themselves, "I'm not going to feel sorry for myself. When I get on, I'll contribute to what the team has achieved."
If we don't have that mentality this season—players willing to say, "Okay, I'll get twenty minutes on, help the team, and make us play better"—then we don't have a chance. Because we're a newly promoted team, and we need everyone. Some players need to understand that, and many did tonight.
Both your substitutes scored, and how Tatsuhiro Sakamoto won the ball back before the third goal perfectly showed his hunger. It must feel great when a plan works out after bringing those substitutes on, mustn't it?
Yes, absolutely. Some people might say, maybe you should start those players. I don't know. I think working with Sakamoto is a very rewarding experience. His attitude every day and what he brings to a match are excellent. He gives everything without hesitation, so it's difficult for me when I don't start him or don't bring him on.
But he'll keep working hard and keep doing his job. That's the right mentality, and he's a very good player. So it's great for him to feel that way. When he gets going, he always brings these things to the team. With or without the ball, Sakamoto is a very capable player. He's much loved by the fans here, and he deserves to be.
It's been quite a while since the win against Nottingham Forest. Did those three weeks feel slow to you? I mean, were you confident the team could replicate this intensity tonight?
I wasn't completely confident, because you can only hope. You have to prepare for the match and make clear the demands to the players. But really, my job is to do those things during the week, and then when the match comes, you have to see how the team plays. On match day, you can influence certain things, but ultimately it depends on the players and how they understand and take on what we're saying.
We wanted the team to play the way they played tonight, to play with energy and threaten the opposition through speed. Now, or rather tonight, the players are gradually adapting. For example, I thought Rudoni played very well. We saw his ability in the Championship. And his performance today was like saying, "Yes, I can make my mark here." Brandon Thomas-Asante was the same, full of energy.
I could go on, but I hope they're beginning to feel they belong at this level. However, what matters is that after the game, they stay calm and keep their feet on the ground, because the next match will be another tough one. But tonight has given us a good example, and we need to keep playing this way.
So you won't let the players dwell too long on this 4-1 victory in the Premier League?
No, because I've been in this game long enough. If you keep dwelling on the joy of a win, or you become complacent... our next match is away at Tottenham. I watched them play Manchester United yesterday, and they played very well.
So we have to take it one game at a time, and we have to maintain the same level of performance. In this league, if we relax, we have no chance. For us, there's no margin for error. So if we want to achieve something, if we want to perform above expectations, if we want to reach a higher level, we have to rely on desire, winning the ball, winning second balls, and all these basic things. Tonight, we did those things very well.
