Dulwich Hamlet goalkeeper Preston Edwards was hilariously forced to ask a member of the public to move his car after local stewards vowed to tow it away during a match.

Edwards was playing in goal during last week's friendly between Dulwich and Premier League Crystal Palace - a game that was arranged as a fundraiser for the non-league club.

Midway through the game though, an announcement came over the stadium's audio system warning a supporter that their vehicle would be taken away if they did not move it immediately.

Edwards ignored the announcement the first two times while he focused on the task at hand but a third call sent him over the edge and he was forced into action.

Obviously unable to leave the field of play, Edwards turned to fans behind the goal and called on someone to move it. The vehicle was later driven to safety by a member of the crowd.

Chants of 'Preston move your car, Preston, Preston move your car,' could be heard around the stadium for the remainder of the contest though.

'It wasn't a wind up,' Edwards tweeted after the game.

'The first two times I ignored it. The third time they mentioned it getting towed. That's when I panicked.'

Edwards admitted he was forced into parking the car in an illegal spot because he was 'running late and saw no spaces.'

A club statement posted on Twitter by Dulwich Hamlet wrote: 'We’ve tracked down the family that were blocked in by @Preston_Eddy. The parents were very understanding and the children are massive football fans....Really pleased to say that they will be guests at our next home game.'
