Rooney stated in an interview with talkSPORT that Manchester United's current squad is weak and they should have signed more players during the summer transfer window.

Manchester United signed only three outfield players this summer, and the team has won just one of their first five Premier League matches. This has left Manchester United in 12th place, 10 points behind the league leaders, and their title hopes have faded.

Manager Michael Carrick is also beginning to feel the pressure. Rooney still hopes his former teammate and club legend can turn things around after the international break.

Rooney said: "Pressure is always there, Michael knows that. If you don't win matches at Manchester United, even losing just one, the pressure mounts."

"So this start to the season hasn't been ideal. I think the club should have signed a few more players before the transfer window closes; the squad is really quite thin."

When asked how Carrick can turn things around, Rooney said: "He has to find a way to get the maximum out of these players, make them perform and try to climb the table after the international break. I think this break comes at the right time."

"He has proven he can get results with this group of players. They need to work hard and hopefully get better results going forward."

Rooney then discussed the situation Carrick is facing. Manchester United signed Youri Tielemans, Carlos Baleba, André Santos, and Karl Darlow this summer, but did not sign a new defender or striker, and Rashford has also returned to the squad this season.

Rooney said: "He knows what he's facing at Manchester United. As a manager, you always want more, and I'm sure he would have hoped for more from the transfer window, but now he has to work with what he has."

"I think the Premier League has become stronger, with better teams in the competition. But if you don't win matches at Manchester United, or any club for that matter, things become very difficult, so I hope he can turn it around."
