Udinese defender Matteo Palma has not yet decided which national team to represent and is prioritizing his recovery from injury.

During the launch event for Udinese's 2026/27 third kit, Matteo Palma was interviewed. He said: "This kit is very beautiful, and it's important to win while wearing it. I hope it brings us joy." He added: "I am very grateful for the trust the club and head coach have placed in me. The important thing is to train well and repay that trust with my performance."

Palma's father is Italian and his mother is German. He grew up in Germany and has represented Italy at U15 level, followed by Germany at U16 and U17. When asked about his national team choice, he stated: "I have always been in contact with both national teams, but I haven't made a decision yet. For me, the most important thing right now is to recover from my injury and play as much as possible. Have there been contacts with federations? I've been in contact with Italy, and also with Germany and Austria, but now is not the time to commit to any of them, as I am currently injured. As a child, I grew up with my German mother and Italian father, and I have worn both jerseys."
