This week, after reporting to the German national team, Kimmich gave an exclusive interview to Sky Sport Germany and RTL, discussing the new chapter for the German team, Klopp's expectations of him, and other topics.

The German team has opened a new chapter

"The feeling is certainly positive. We know we are coming out of a difficult situation. With a new coach, there's always an initial excitement. The coach also brings a lot of energy."

"I believe many things will naturally emerge and happen on the field because, ultimately, it's football. We need to deliver results on the pitch. And of course, we also need to talk about our style of play; we definitely need to keep working on that."

On Klopp becoming Germany's head coach

"I really feel that he is very passionate about this job, and doing something for the German team means a lot to him. He brings a lot of energy, drive, and anticipation. Now, of course, we have to try to bring this energy into the team and let it reflect in the results."

On Klopp's remarks about flags

"It's difficult for us to take political stances. However, football does have the opportunity to bring about change at the societal level. Especially a locker room or a team can be a great example for our society. Many individuals come together, striving to ignite passion for a greater whole."

"It's important that everyone thinks of each other. The personality of each individual is equally important. But we also want to bring this strength to the fans at home, to make them proud again, to give them something that makes them say, 'Our German national team – it's really interesting to watch them play.'"

Klopp's expectations of you as captain

"People always expect performance – and that's also what I demand of myself. Additionally, it's important to help the team return to where it should be, to where its potential and talent allow. Talent alone often remains theoretical."

"To maximize talent, character and mentality are also needed. I also see this as my task. We must re-establish this sense of belonging, so that every player feels it is special to be here. I have already felt in the past few days that everyone is happy to be back here again."

On the changes Klopp brings

"I think the focus is primarily on attitude – the attitude on and off the field, and within the entire team. It will be important for us to rediscover our DNA and identity, an identity that manifests on the field, off the field, externally, and internally. It manifests in how we interact with each other, how we fight for each other on the field, and how we communicate internally and externally."

On the World Cup exit

"For me, that was the most painful exit. This has happened for the third time, and this time in a different role, so it hit me even harder. It took me some time to process and sort it out."

"Looking back, all three World Cup exits are part of my career; these cannot be changed, but we can ensure they don't happen again in the future. I will focus my energy and attention on this. We will do our best to bring joy to people again."

On the future of the German team

"We want to make people happy again, make them want to watch the national team again – not just at the World Cup and European Championship, but in all other matches too. We hope to make everyone feel invested and connected with the national team again. We want to give people a reason to be proud of Germany."
