According to The Sun, Manchester United has signed 27-year-old goalkeeping coach Connor King from Burnley, who has joined Michael Carrick's coaching staff.

King previously worked at Burnley for five years. He ended his playing career at 21 and then joined Burnley's coaching staff.

Manchester United's goalkeeping coach Craig Mawson also joined Manchester United from Burnley in 2020 and knew King during his time there. Mawson had been Manchester United's only senior goalkeeping coach since Jorge Vital left with Ruben Amorim in January, until King's arrival this month.

Manchester United has cycled through multiple goalkeeping coaches in recent years. Richard Hartis returned to the club in 2019 and began working alongside Emilio Alvarez. Alvarez, who was close to David de Gea, suddenly left two months after this partnership began and was subsequently replaced by Mawson.

José Mourinho brought Alvarez to Manchester United in 2016, partly in an attempt to reassure De Gea when his future remained uncertain. Alvarez left the club shortly after De Gea signed a new contract with Manchester United in September 2019.

Hartis left in the summer of 2024, and Manchester United's new structure subsequently adjusted the coaching staff. After Hartis's departure, Jelle ten Rouwelaar took over but only coached for four months before Vital arrived.

Following the international break, Manchester United urgently needs to restart their season. The team has won only one Premier League match since the start of the season and is currently 10 points behind leaders Manchester City. Last weekend, Manchester United secured a point away at Fulham, with the match ending in a draw.

The poor results have put increasing pressure on Carrick at Old Trafford.
