Germany have been dealt a double injury blow as Kai Havertz and Jamal Musiala have both withdrawn from the squad.

Musiala suffered a torn muscle fibre in his right thigh during the warm-up for their Nations League opener against the Netherlands.

Havertz started the match, which finished as a 1-1 draw, but was then withdrawn in the 30th minute due to a muscle strain – as announced by the German Football Association (DFB).

No timeline has been set for Havertz's return, but German media reports that Musiala will be out for three to four weeks for Bayern Munich.

Jurgen Klopp has named two squads for this extended international break, including 44 players, so Florian Wirtz and Jonathan Burkardt have now been called up one game earlier than originally planned.

Wirtz has come under criticism for his Liverpool performances so far this season, particularly after their 1-0 victory over Bournemouth.

He has made six appearances for Liverpool in all competitions this term, registering just one assist, despite creating 12 chances – the third-most of any Reds player.

Burkardt, meanwhile, has made a stellar start to the campaign for Eintracht Frankfurt, netting six goals in his five outings.

He is currently averaging a goal every 64.7 minutes and a 42.9% shot conversion rate.

Germany's second Nations League match sees them host Greece on Sunday.
