According to Sport, Barcelona has decided to temporarily halt plans to build dedicated accommodation for first-team players at Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper, prioritizing instead the new gym project. Both facilities were requested by head coach Hansi Flick.

As revealed by the podcast "Barça Reservat", Barcelona had originally planned to construct a centralized accommodation facility for the first team next to the Tito Vilanova training pitch. The club has now decided to temporarily shelve this project and focus on the new gym, which is currently under construction.
The accommodation was designed as dedicated space for first-team players, primarily for pre-match stays and recovery after games and training sessions. After Flick arrived as Barcelona coach, he reinstated the practice of having the entire squad stay together before some matches, including home games. Barcelona had previously approved the relevant construction plans.
However, due to the club's re-prioritization of infrastructure projects, this project has been temporarily shelved. According to "Barça Reservat", construction costs for first-team accommodation have risen to approximately 12 to 14 million euros, significantly higher than the initial budget of around 6 million euros.
Barcelona's decision does not cancel the project outright, but rather postpones it for future implementation.
The club's immediate priority is completing the new gym located next to the Tito Vilanova training pitch. This facility was also requested by Flick to expand physical training capacity for the first team.
The existing gym at Ciutat Esportiva no longer meets the first team's needs. With increased emphasis on physical training, recovery, and individualized player conditioning, the current space has become insufficient.
The new gym is being constructed adjacent to the training pitch and will feature large glass windows, allowing players to view the pitch directly while training indoors. The main structure is now largely complete.
Once operational, the new facility will enable the Barcelona first team to more seamlessly integrate pitch training with specialized physical work—including strength, flexibility, and speed conditioning—as well as recovery sessions.
Barcelona therefore considers the new gym more urgent for Flick's coaching staff, while the first-team player accommodation project has been moved to a later construction phase.
