According to L'Équipe, Zidane has asked the French Football Federation (FFF) to implement measures to develop a new generation of full-backs.

After taking over as head coach of the French national team this summer, Zidane quickly contacted the FFF's national technical department, led by Jean-François Bailleux, about the lack of depth at full-back.
L'Équipe reports that Zidane requested measures to help develop talent in the full-back position. However, such development processes often take several years to yield results. Zidane also contacted France U21 and U20 coaches Gérard Baticle and Bernard Diomède, asking them to experiment with players in full-back roles.
Zidane made significant changes when announcing the squad for his first training camp as France coach. Théo Hernandez, Lucas Hernandez, and Gusto, who were previously selected by Didier Deschamps for the 2026 World Cup, were replaced by Andy Diouf, Adrian Truffert, and Pierre Kalulu.
Juventus right-back Kalulu made consecutive starts against Belgium and Italy, replacing the underperforming Koundé.
On the left flank, Adrian Truffert earned recognition for his pace and athleticism. The AFC Bournemouth full-back started against Turkey and Italy, meeting Zidane's requirements for modern full-backs. After his first international break, Truffert said: "The coach wants full-backs to be very attacking, and I think that suits my characteristics."
